Pictured above is the author, Michael Ashburne, an Oakland entertainment attorney who has specialized in the representation of recording artists, producers, songwriters and personal managers for over twenty years.
Born in Philadelphia, he graduated from Berkeley's Boalt Hall Law school
in 1971 and currently resides in Oakland.
In the seventies Mr. Ashburne represented Richard Pryor, Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway among others. In the past five years he has represented rapper Ice Cube, Street Knowledge Productions (a Los Angeles production company with artists such as Yo-Yo and Del the Funkee Homosapien), Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster (the Oakland based producers of En Vogue) and new Jive/Zomba recording artists Casual, Souls of Mischief and Extra Prolific. In addition to his legal experience, Mr. Ashburne managed former CBS and Warner Brothers artist Taj Mahal for a number of Years.
Mr. Ashburne writes articles on entertainment law for the AFRO AMERICAN RECORDING ARTIST and appears frequently as a panelist for such organizations as the Northern California Songwriters Association, Californial Lawyers for the Arts, Committee for Excellence in Black Music and the San Francisco Bar Association.
