Recently,
a question was posted
on Hiero Hoopla as to how the Hiero / Skater relationship
began. The man responsible for that introduction is
our very own Jacob Rosenberg who has directed the last
3 Hiero videos including "You
Never Knew". Here's his reply:
"When we were putting together the First Plan B
skate video, Mike Carrol had the first souls demo tape
with all the old songs, step to my girl, etc, etc. When
I went down to San Diego to work on the video, I had
my own copies of the tapes and when it came time to
cut the parts and use the songs we figured it'd be a
good time to establish a legit relationship and since
I was doing music "licensing" shit, I called
Domino and we used Burnt and a del song for Sal Barbier.
From then on, with the Plan B videos we had a specific
connection so that only hiero gave us their music for
the videos. So for The Questionable Video, Virtual Reality
and Second Hand Smoke (the 3 plan B videos) we used
obscure and unreleased music (unreleased at the initial
release of the video).
Was
hiero down with the skaters and they put the music in
the video?
--Jovantae
did know Del and the Souls knew some of the kids who
skated in SF at The EMB, but mostly after we used the
music in the Videos we got into shows and the skaters
were able to meet Hiero. But there wasn't a big "hey
that's my boy" relationship prior to the release
of the first video.
Did
hiero approach the skaters with that intent?
Hiero
didn't approach the skaters, we approached Hiero.
Did
the skaters just start adding to their videos?
As
I mentioned before, we would get new music from Domino
after the relationship was started and then we would
pump it into the video as they were released.
How
did it progress?
--it
progressed by just staying in touch with the crew, for
myself it ultimately put me in a position with hiero
where I was eventually shooting photos for them and
making their videos....
