When I started this page more than 15 months ago, I would have never thought we'd be where we are today. Released on August 16th, 1995, the then "Unofficial Hieroglyphics Web Page" was a novice webmaster's attempt to meet other people who were down with the sound of the Hieroglyphics crew. It was my first web page, and my first step into something much more than I had ever anticipated. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. Much of my information came from online hip-hop veteran, Mercer of Sandbox Distribution, for whom I will always thank for helping me out! Of course, the 20 or so Hiero Heads who frequented the page everyday in the very begining have to be thanked just as much! Through that page, we were able to come together and straight talk about, what I feel to be, the dopest hip-hop crew ever: Hieroglyphics. However, time and an overall lack of interest from the public, made me decide to shut down the page during the month of September 1995. Perhaps by a chance of fate (??!), the VERY SAME DAY I decided to shut the page down, Tajai gave me a holler and made the page official. It's obvious now, on the brink of 1997, how the members of Hieroglyphics have influenced this page. We have seen an increase of more than 340% more people into Hieroglyphics Online on a daily basis than we did one year ago, and we have no one to thank but you.
For me, Hieroglyphics Online is still unbelievable. To be able to interact with so many heads on a daily basis, all of whom are down with Hieroglyphics, is stunning to me. More so is the fact that the crew has told me they consider me one of the Hieroglyphics Imperium -- For a fan of their music, such as myself, it doesn't get much better than that. I would have never thought ANY of this possible when I first grabbed Del's debut album and bumped it in my walkman, how many years ago. . .But the fact of the matter is, I am still a fan of their music, and will continue to be for as long as they bring it.
Because I am both a fan of their music, and have the opportunity to communicate with them as much as I do, I feel it my duty to provide to all of you, everything any Hiero fan would expect from a person in my position. I -- We -- listen to all of your suggestions, and try to incorporate as much of your thoughts as we can into becoming a reality. You asked for Hiero merchandise, and we came through. You asked for a message board, and I delivered that. The list goes on. My point is, as we creep into the year of 1997, myself, and the rest of the Hieroglyphics Crew, will continue to keep bringing you want you want. If you have a suggestion, PLEASE drop us a line! It's my opinion that our current layout is the best it has ever been. I am very pleased with the site's overall design, look and feel. I'd like to take time to thank all those who have contributed reviews of shows, art work, posts on the bulletin board, etc. This is what it's all about.
1997 will be more than an exciting year for us all. Hieroglyphics has taken a lot of time to think about their business structure, and how they will re-emerge into the hip-hop world, and take it by storm. Without saying too much, expect something along the lines of a domino effect (no pun intended). I'll leave that up to you to decipher, but keep this in mind: It all starts with the release of the Hieroglyphics Family Album.
I will try to keep Hiero Online as up to par as the music of the crew as I can, but from what I've heard of the new material, that momentum may be a bit too far out of my reach to stay up with.
