One of the most influential conventions in the entire music industry just passed, and once again Hiero made a splash.
In the 1991 Gavin Convention, a then unkown crew by the name of Souls of Mischief introduced themselves to the industry, and took the entire show by storm. Not only did they make an enormous buzz, but it was at this 1991 Gavin where Souls received their record deal. Other acts to get deals at the 91' Gavin convention were Organzied Konfusion and Kurious Jeorge (Where they all met and freestyled in the hallways :)
This year's Gavin was held in New Orleans. Hiero pressed up limited edition promotional samplers and tee shirts to pass out to various heads in the industry. The overall buzz seemed to be that of a "comeback" vibe. Representing Hiero at the Gavin was Domino, APlus, Del and Opio. Everyone in the crew had nothing but positive things to say about this year's Gavin. Many people approached the crew and shared their enthusiasm about the album. One of the bigger occurrences at the Gavin was a surprise team-up with Hiero and KRS.One!
At an after party show at a local college radio station, Del, A Plus and Op were all freestyling. KRS (Who also attended the Gavin) was driving around in his car when he was overtook by the freestyling prowess of the Hiero crew. Midway through Opio's second go-around, who other than KRS comes walking through the radio station's doors to get up on the mic and rip shit?! Needless to say it was one helluva radio show, and happened to be the buzz the following day, back at the Gavin. People were actually trading copies of the radio show!
So how does this year's Gavin affect Hiero, and where is all of this leading?
Basically, the word is out. The buzz has been started, and Hiero has successfully re-introduced themselves to the industry. Domino stated that many labels and distributors have been contacting him since their appearance at the Gavin. Everything is falling into place.
The next thing I asked Domino was where the crew will go from here? Domino informed me that the next big steps are to hook up with the press/media, and to push a single on vinyl, consisiting of the songs "Oakland Blackouts", "The Who" and "Dune Methane". The single (Still not chosen) would first be distributed to DJ's and the online store at first. Hiero needs that vinyl spinning and for the sound to spread. Once people begin to hear it on the radio or at a house party, they'll be like, "OH shiT! Where can I get this??!" After a month or so after DJ's and the online store gets it, then the single would be released to stores nationwide. Also in the pipeline is the completion of the mixing process, as well as the always tedious sample clearance.
Watch how Hiero rips shit in 1997! Everyone is so juiced, and the parts of the puzzle are coming together beautifully. Oh, on a side note, look for some Future Developments within the next 3 weeks.
