Since 1990, each new year has brought about spurts of Hiero curiosity for this enthusiast. Whether doubts of hyped new shit leave fans distraught, or loyal listeners excited, Hieroglyphics has proven innovative and original in each of their outings. For myself, I was fortunate enough to have hooked up with the crew starting around 1992. I worked on a series of skateboard videos (Plan B) and one of my tasks was to secure certain music used in those video's soundtracks.

After the success of the first two videos ("The Questionable Video" and "Virtual Reality"), Hiero realized the impact of the market that was strengthened by the videos, and welcomed me to shows and recording sessions during the years that followed. Since I had established a contact with Domino, I did a series of interviews for "Blunt" snowboard magazine, featuring Del and Casual. A year and a half ago, I helped put out a 'zine (Eklektic) in San Fran featuring a Hiero article and other local music interviews (Bored Stiff). Since then, I have kept in touch with Domino, always asking for group updates and a few tapes here and there (even adding a few good copied Del rarities to Hiero Oldies #2). Since then, I have frequented as many shows as possible, building mass amounts of photographs to my already large archive.

Planning with Domino to help out with whatever possible for the upcoming album, I set out to document as much as I could in the time I spent on vacation living back on the west coast. I currently go to school in Boston, so my time back home in Cali. was limited. The following is an account of the events I saw leading up to the new album and a recounting of the time I spent in the studio with the crew, while they prepared "The Family Album".
