Souls Show In Philly
Souls of Mischif kicked off their US tour in Philadelphia on the night of October 25th, 1995, at the Electric Factory. It was cold, it was crowded, and for many, it was a waiting game. However, many endured the long stand outside, as the harmonious and thumpin' sounds of ROOTS, Pharcyde, and of course Souls of Mischief were being released by sound checks, out the font door.
The concert was suppose to start at 8, but doors didn't opened until 8:20. Of course there were problems with my guest passes as Electric Factory usually does shit like this. My party and another from On the Go magazine/video were left outside in the cold. We consistently went up to the ticket booth and asked, "Is Souls here yet?"; our answer,"No". Souls had our tickets, so we couldn't get in until they arrived.
We waited and waited some more, until all of a sudden we hear coming from inside the building, "Yeaahhh! HieroGlyphics comin' all the way from the West coast to rip this muthafucka up!". We all looked at each other, and bum-rushed the ticket booth bitching to the lady, "Aye, yo! You told us that you would let us know when Souls got here". To make a long story short, we didn't get inside for like an hour, which cut into Souls' playing time. By the time we did manage to get inside, Souls had been on stage for like 25 minutes already. So thanx to Electric Factory Outlet, I can only tell you about the 15 minutes I did see.
SOM knows how to rock uh party! The crew, with Domino on tables 1 and 2, and JayBiz chillin on stage downin' a brew, rocked tha Philly crowd. They performed a remix of the now titled, "95 til infinity", as well as many cuts off their new album, No Man's Land. But one of the phattest things SOM did during their set was when Tajai, A-Plus and Opio all claimed different sides of the crowd. SOM would do call and respnse chants to see which side of the crowd was liver. It got the East coast/Philly crowd hyped, and it was definitely some Hiero flavor. But this was nothing compared to the way they ended their set.
Opio, Tajai, and Phesto all started to freestyle on stage, and the shit was all the way live. For any who doubt the freestyling skills of tha Hiero crew, go see them live as they more times than never freestyle towards the end.
Although I missed nearly half of Souls' set, what I did see/hear was most definitely phat. If you get the chance, you gotta go see these doodes in concert. To see if Souls is coming to your city, check the Tour Dates section of the page.
