Four Stars

After waiting, and waiting, and waiting for this tape to come over in the mail from Hieroglyphics Online, and it was definately worth the wait since I am a big Hiero fan. Definately the highlight of this tape for me is "Cab Fare"... this song is plainly phat as hell. With that "Taxi" sample over the bassline, plus some speedy rhymes from SOM, I was impressed. "Can I Kill 'Em?" by Pep & Jay Biz is a refreshing song, something from these two who have never managed to commercially release any material. "Souls Of Mischief" is kinda cool... but then comes "Beyond The Cloak..." by Del, which is phat... why didn't that wind up on "No Need For Alarm"? My only guess is he may have thought it was too catchy or commerical for the Hiero liking. Still, the song is the jam. Phesto comes off correct in the WKCR Freestyle, which apparently happened about a year before "'93 Til Infinity" came out. Rhyming Jordan with Portland on the top was kinda fly. Finally, why wasn't "Chaos & Turmoil" on "No Man's Land"? It's another song that is worthy of being on the LP, but for some reason wasn't... overall, for the $15 bucks on Hieroglyphics.Com, this tape is definately worth the bills.
