Casual, Teaching You All About Fear Itself
There was once a time in hip-hop history when mcees had the freedom to do or say pretty much what they wanted; that was when hip-hop was young. Since that time, Hieroglyphics has come onto the scene, and with it came forth a rhymer by the name of Casual. With the aid of Fear in his arsenal, Casual sent chills throughout the hip-hop community, using nothing more than his mind and his cipher. It was a sad day for all wack mcees, but it was a glorious moment in hip-hop history when Big John stepped onto the scene, and cleaned shit up.

A Lil' History. . .
Making many appearances on other Hiero albums such as his verse on "Limitations" on the 93 Til Infinity album, Casual made a name for himself by having some of the illest lyrics ever. If you've never heard this kid rip shit, then you need to go pick up his debut album, Fear Itself (JIVE/Zomba records, 1993-94). It instantly became a hip-hop classic to many fans who were starving for something fresh. His distinctive, deep voice, coupled with the way he changes the pitch in his verses make for an all new style, whcih heavily complimented hip-hop music.
As if lyrics were not enough, Casual (AKA John Owens) has almost perfected the skill of production. Del's "Catch a Bad One" was produced by Casual, and remains many Hiero fans' favorite Hiero cut ever. His skills have been leant to other Hiero members as well. Casual produced a couple of tracks for No man's Land, and his voice can be heard on every Hiero album ever published. And for all those Extra Pro fans out there who may not know, it was Casual who noticed Snupe posessed exceptional skills in rhyming, and decided to adopt him into the Hiero crew, so you have him to thank for that contribution!
Casual is undoubtedly a great asset to the Hieroglyphic Imperium, and is yet another reason why this crew is so wellrespected in the hip-hop community and beyond!
